Basere is a village of Kurdistan in the Khidran district of Dukan district and at the foothills of Mount Kosret, like all other areas of Kurdistan, that area was also surrounded by the army and armed forces of Iraq, the presence of an Iraqi army regiment in that area was completely destructive and the military checkpoints also had a bad effect on the life of the villagers and residents of that area, and they were also a great obstacle in front of the revolution and the Peshmerga movement, in 1987 due to the tension within the ranks of the army and government forces, a wide opening was opened for Peshmerga activities, in many areas of Kurdistan every day groups of Peshmerga forces attacked the government's armed forces and inflicted great damage on their lives and property.
One of the Peshmerga activities is the Basere battle which took place on the night of July 27/28, 1987, when the Peshmerga forces of the third and fourth branches of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) with a strong military plan carried out a major attack on the Basere battalion with the intention of attack and partisan activity and inflicting damage on the government forces, because the Peshmerga forces carried out the attack with a plan and preparation, they were able to capture and defeat the regiment in a short time, in the end the government forces suffered heavy blows and 152 soldiers were killed, 70 other soldiers were taken prisoner, the main headquarters of the regiment and all military positions were destroyed and a large number of weapons, ammunition, equipment and military supplies fell into the hands of the Peshmerga forces, in the recording of that epic 2 Peshmerga were martyred.
