After all those battles and fighting that took place between the Barzani forces and Iran, and on 5 April 1947, all the Iranian forces that were able at that time to control most of the areas under the authority of the Barzanis once again, launched a large-scale attack from several directions on the Barzanis, taking advantage of gunmen from the Mangur tribe. In one of the battle fronts that was on the heights of Gerd Keshan, a battle took place between the Iranian Army, supported and armed with 105 mm and 75 mm artillery, in addition to air support, and 150 of the Barzani Peshmerga led by Ahmed Margori. In that battle, and after fierce fighting, those heights fell into the hands of the Iranian Army, and thus the Iranian Army took full control of the Shno area.
At that time, tanks and a group of Lorestan cavalry forces were the first group to arrive inside the city of Shno. As for the Barzanis, they retreated to the Gelas valley and from there to Gader, but before their return, and on 8 April 1947, coinciding with their withdrawal, the Barzanis were able to shoot down one of the Iranian Air Force planes that was heavily bombing their forces, which led to the death of one of the pilots and the survival of the other by parachute. In order to lighten the burden on them, they released the prisoners they had captured in previous battles, which included 18 Army officers who were captured, in addition to Second Lieutenant Hamid Jahanbani. They released him through Sayyid Abdullah Gilani and returned him to the Iranian Army. Lieutenant Jahanbani was released on 10 April 1947. While the Barzanis were withdrawing to the border between Iran and Iraq, Sheikh Ahmed Barzani wrote a letter to the Army official Homayouni, describing the cannons that were in the possession of the Barzanis as follows: ((It is your forces that attacked us, and we did not commit any aggression. As for the cannons, you seized one cannon with all its equipment in Shno, and another cannon remained in Iranian territory. You can search for it through Sheikh Abdullah and find its location and recover it, because we did not have animals to pull that cannon, so we did not take it with us. Your planes kill nearly twenty of our women and children every day. As for the prisoners, we have handed over all the officers and others to Sheikh Abdullah, and Jahanbani we handed over to Sayyid Kamal)). Sheikh Ahmed Barzani also demanded in his letter to the Iranians the following: ((That your planes stop bombing women and children, for this is an inhumane act and contradicts all international laws, so let them refrain from that)). In this way, the Barzanis began an organized withdrawal to Iraqi territory.
