The Bamarni sub-district is located at the foothills of Mount Metina in the Amadiya district of Duhok province. During the September Revolution major battles were fought there, the most famous of which was the Battle of Mount Metina. It is clear that this battle and many other battles have played a major role in shaping the pages of history through the fighting and bravery recorded by the Peshmerga Forces for the sake of achieving freedom.

The continuation of the struggle in the Gulan Revolution saw the Peshmerga's activities in various regions of Kurdistan put the state in a difficult position. Through guerrilla tactics, they were able to deliver lethal blows to the military and security institutions of the Ba'ath government. The Battle of Bamarni is one of the Peshmerga's steps against the bases and headquarters of the Iraqi army in the Bamarni area, where on the night of 26-27 May 1987, the Peshmerga Forces of the Amadiya, Duhok, and Shekhan committees and the national defense forces launched an attack.

Although the Peshmerga attack was postponed for one night due to the withdrawal of the mercenaries who had promised to help, later, with a comprehensive military plan, the attack was carried out on the Iraqi army bases in the area. In a short time, 13 positions, the Bamarni airport, the headquarters of the border guard battalion, and the 140 battalion were captured. The Iraqi army suffered heavy blows, with more than 100 soldiers killed and 58 soldiers captured. The spoils of war included more than 215 pieces of various weapons and more than 20150 rounds of various ammunition. It is clear that the Peshmerga forces were not without losses, as two Peshmerga named Fawzi Ramazan Rasho Sikrini and Abdulstar Salih Murad were martyred and 30 Peshmerga were wounded.

In this attack, 32 thousand dinars were seized at the battalion headquarters. The Peshmerga and officials immediately stood up and presented that money to the families of the martyrs. It is clear that the success of this battle and the strong blow to the government's military institutions was a great morale booster for the revolution and the Peshmerga forces, and it was also a strong message to the Ba'ath regime that the revolution was continuing and could carry out major operations wherever it wanted.
