The Barzan tribes and their role in Iraq

This book is originally a doctoral thesis and consists of an introduction, four chapters, and an appendix.

The first chapter is about the Barzan tribes up to the year 1915 and contains four topics, which discuss the origin of the name Barzan and the geographical locations and settlements, the role of the Naqshbandi sheikhs in the unification of the Barzan tribes, the tribes of the Sheikh of Barzan and the social situation, and the defense of the Barzan tribes under the leadership of Sheikh Abdulselam Barzani against the Ottoman authorities until the year 1915.

In the second chapter of the book, the political and social situation of the Barzan tribes between the years 1915-1931 is discussed, and it consists of three topics that discuss political developments and their impact on the Barzan tribes between the years 1915-1921, political developments in Iraq and their impact on the Barzan tribes between the years 1921-1927, and the positions of Britain and Iraq regarding the movement of the Barzan tribes between the years 1927-1931.

The third chapter is about the movement of the Barzan tribes under the leadership of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani between the years 1931-1935, and it contains three topics: the reasons for the armed movement of the Barzan tribes and the position of the Kurdish tribes, the Iraqi government, British authorities, and neighboring countries between the years 1931-1935, the position of the Iraqi press and the Iraqi parliament regarding the movement of the Barzan tribe under the leadership of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani between the years (1931-1935), and the return of administrative authority to the Barzan region between the years 1933-1935.

The fourth chapter of this book discusses the situation of the Barzan tribes between the years 1935-1958 and consists of three topics: the situation of the Barzan region and its tribes until the year 1943, the movement of Mela Mustafa Barzani and the role of the Barzan tribes between the years 1943-1945, and the situation of the Barzanis between the years 1945-1947.
