At the time when the Iranian government was able to regain control of that region by attacking the Republic of Kurdistan, Mullah Mustafa Barzani and his force wanted to escape from Iranian territory and return once again to their own areas in Iraqi Kurdistan, but that return was not without problems and difficulties; on that path, they encountered several battles and dangers. One of those battles that took place at that time between the Barzanis and the Iranian army force was the Gojar battle.
Mullah Mustafa Barzani on March 11, 1947, headed towards the northern regions to test the route of return to their homeland and to meet with the tribal leaders of that region. Therefore, in the village of Anbi, at the house of Nuri Beg Begzada, he met with the tribal leaders of the region. At that time, through a spy named Hawirko, the news of that meeting reached Urmia, where General Homayouni was present. Therefore, the Iranian army came to that area and on the night of March 13-14, 1947, they besieged the village of Gojar. In that event, Mustafa Barzani had a small number of his force with him, people such as Colonel Bakr Abdulkarim Huweizi and Muhammad Hussein Herki from the Herki tribal leaders, and teacher Muhammad Wardi, along with 13 of the Barzani Peshmerga. When Barzani became aware of that siege, they headed towards Bardasur and defended themselves. The next day, when the shooting stopped, they went into the village of Koyi and saw that no one remained in that village. After a while, they learned that four people from the Begzadas had been killed, one of whom was Hawirko, who had brought the news of the presence of Mustafa Barzani and his companions in the village of Gojar to General Homayouni. Among the Barzanis, two people were martyred, who were Haji Muhammad Hostani and Shawali Shindo Shanderi, and three Peshmerga, who were Hasso Mirxan Xardni, Hali Muhammad Xalani, and Mustafa Rasho Liloki, were wounded.
The following day, the Begzadas, along with the Iranian force and 3 tanks and aircraft, attacked the Barzanis, and also a force was coming from Urmia to block the path of the Barzanis at Gali Bandi. When Barzani sensed this, he created strong defensive lines in strategic locations in the areas of Bari Zar and the heights of Haveras and Kawi Zar. The reason for this action was to protect these places, because it was the only way for the Barzanis to escape the attacks of the Iranian army, as all the Barzani families were in those areas.
