It is clear that the hostile policy of the Iraqi government towards Kurdistan was manifested in the behavior of military forces and mercenaries who always carried out military operations to destroy the Kurds and destroy and burn Kurdish villages, but every time the military attacks were repelled by the Peshmerga Forces, because of this, in the year 1987 in the Behdinan region, the activities of the Peshmerga moved to a broad phase, in a way that forced the government to be constantly on the battlefronts with the Peshmerga, on the morning of 5 May 1987, a Peshmerga force consisting of Peshmerga from the Amediye District Committee, 3 organizations affiliated with the Gulan District Committee, 2 organizations of the first branch and a national force under the supervision of Dr. Roj Nuri Shaways and Colonel Ali and Sayid Salih, launched a major attack on the light regiment base of 111, whose advisor was Sheikh Nuri Barzinji, in the Dêrelok area of the Amediye district, after a fierce and bloody battle, the regiment headquarters and 81 positions around the regiment and the area were captured by the Peshmerga forces.
In this Peshmerga operation, the government forces suffered heavy blows and 38 people were killed and more than (40) were captured and fell into the hands of the Peshmerga, among the prisoners were the first pilot, Abdulhamid Khatab Abdullah, the regiment commander, and three soldiers and one deputy officer and thirty mercenaries (Jash) were present, 16 other mercenaries surrendered to the Peshmerga Forces, also material losses reached the government forces which were the burning of an armored vehicle and 9 military vehicles and 200 Kalashnikovs and cross-fire weapons, (R.P.G.), a 82mm mortar, a 5.14mm mortar, a Grnoff, (14) wireless devices, and a large number of bullets, shells, and R.P.G. shell explosives were the gains of the Peshmerga.
After the end of the Peshmerga attack at 13.00 on the same day, Iraqi warplanes bombed the region, the district, and the Peshmerga bases and positions, during the Iraqi air attacks the Peshmerga Air Defense Force shot down a helicopter with a SAM 7 missile, 7 soldiers in that plane fell into the hands of the Peshmerga forces, one of them was Colonel Pilot Hamid Said and the first pilot, Pilot Nizar Adnan, this had a great impact on the morale of the Peshmerga on the battlefronts, as a result of the attack one Peshmerga was martyred and 3 were wounded.
It is worth mentioning that in that same attack, the revolution's artillery shelled the army's headquarters and bases and the government forces, as it has been said, one day after the Peshmerga attack on the Iraqi forces, that is, on 6 May 1987, President Masoud Barzani the leader of the revolution on Mount Gare contacted the Peshmerga officials via wireless device to congratulate the victories of the Peshmerga Forces that they recorded in the attack.
