Biography

Dr. Roj was born in the city of Sulaymaniyah in 1947. He was the son of the engineer Nuri Shaways (1922-1983), a member of the Political Bureau of the Party, and the teacher Nahida Sheikh Salam Ahmed (1922-2005), a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. In 1971, he received his bachelor's degree from the College of Engineering at the University of Mosul, and later obtained his master's and doctorate in electrical engineering in the Country of Germany. He was an experienced statesman and, during his service, held several official and governmental tasks and responsibilities in the Kurdistan Region and the Republic of Iraq. He passed away in the city of Erbil in 2021. He was proficient in the Kurdish, Arabic, German, Persian, and English languages.

Struggle Record

Dr. Roj joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces in the Year 1962. At the Congresses of Ninth Year 1979, Tenth Year 1989, Eleventh Year 1993, Twelfth Year 1999, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee and later as a member of the Political Bureau. In the Year 2010, at the Thirteenth Congress, he was re-elected as a member of the Leadership Council and subsequently as a member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. During his work within the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, he held several tasks and responsibilities, such as member of the Sixth Branch Committee in Europe in the Year 1979, responsible for the Organization Department in the Year 1985, responsible for the First Branch Committee in the Year 1987, etc.

In addition to carrying out political and organizational tasks, he also participated as a leader and field Commander in several battles and epics, such as the Battle of Haji Omaran in the Year 1980, Commander of the Kani Masi epic in the Year 1987, Commander of the Dereluk epic in the Year 1987, planner of the capture of the Bamarni military airport in the Year 1987, one of the Commanders of the Khwakurk epic in the Year 1988, participation in the uprising of Southern Kurdistan in the Year 1991, Commander of the Khazir front on the border of Mosul province in the war against ISIS in the Year 2014, etc.

At the same time, he was an experienced statesman and, during his service, held several official and governmental tasks and responsibilities in the Kurdistan Region and the Republic of Iraq, such as member of the Kurdistan National Assembly in the first term in the Year 1992, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan in the first cabinet in the Year 1992, Deputy Prime Minister in the second cabinet in the Year 1993, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region in the third cabinet in the Year 1996, Commander of the Kurdistan Army Command (Falak) in the Year 1994, President of the Kurdistan National Assembly in the Year 1999, Deputy to President Masoud Barzani in the Iraqi Interim Governing Council in the Year 2003, Deputy President of Iraq during the presidency of Ghazi al-Yawer in the Year 2004, representative of the Iraqi National Assembly in the Year 2005, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Iraq in the cabinet of Dr. Ibrahim al-Jaafari in the Year 2005, member of the National Security Council in the Year 2007, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Iraq in the Year 2009, Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq in the cabinet of Nouri al-Maliki in the Year 2010, etc.

In the Year 2010, due to his struggle and resistance in the Aylul Revolution، Gulan Revolution, the phase of the uprising of Southern Kurdistan, and the phase of sovereignty, he was awarded the medal of the immortal Barzani by President Masoud Barzani .
